Hi Victoria:
I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That is just south of the border from Thailand. Don’t bother to try Tangthai Broadway. This is because the best chef is now in Edmonton and then the one in Tangthai Robson.

Ben, which country did you grow up in, if you don’t mind me asking? I will have to try the Tangthai on Broadway as well – I haven’t been there yet either. As for authentic pad thai, I am sure I’ll have to find it somewhere eventually, so I will let you know if/when I do. In the meantime, I’ll have to get my fill from my mom’s home-made version…

Nice review, Victoria. Even though I grew up in the country just next to Thailand, I very little experience in Thai cuisine other than Tom Yam. I am just keen to know how an authentic Pad Thai tastes like. The ones I had in both Tangthais (Broadway included), I thought were a bit too “saucey” for my liking. Your picture of the Pad Kee Mao looked too light and too saucey too. Tana of “Cheap Eats” I think is Thai … and he said he did not like the Pad Thai Kungkrep in Tangthai … so there you go! Frankly, I prefer the Tangthai in Broadway better because Sonia’s top chef worked there before. Her top chef got homesick and went back to their Edmonton restaurant! That top chef had won awards in Thailand before — yeah, he is good. While the existing chefs are all from Thailand, I am not sure how good these new ones are.
