Let’s whet the appetite

Plate of Food

So as everyone that knows me (or even barely knows me) learns quickly – I love to eat.  In fact, as those closest to me can attest, my moods are closely in tune with how satisfied I am from my latest meal.  Everything in my life somehow revolves around food – be it when I’m planning or on vacation, during my regular workday, or really anywhere at all!

Take my latest vacation booking.

My boyfriend, Mike, and I knew that we wanted to book a one-week trip to somewhere in the Caribbean for November so that we can get in a full relaxation session and not have to lift a finger (if we don’t want to). I was in charge of planning this trip, so the first thing I did was start asking friends who had been in various places in the Caribbean specifically how the food was. I had my eyes set on the Dominican or Cuba, as I haven’t been to either yet and know that they have beautiful beaches.  When it came down to it, I learned that Cuba has the worst, most bland food that can be found in that area, and the Dominican, while it came in second worst, was still  a big improvement. So, knowing that if I chose a great resort with a lot of food choices I should be ok regardless, we ended up choosing to go to Punta Cana.  Really, the other variables, such as diving experiences, local culture, and out-of-resort tours didn’t factor into the final decision. (It also helped that the resort we chose has international brands of alcohol in their all-inclusive package.)

Living to eat naturally means that I’ve had all sorts of food experiences, both memorable and those I would prefer not to remember, that I can share with others.  I’m often asked my opinion on restaurants within Vancouver (and without), and thought that it would be a good idea to start jotting them all down to help out my friends, and anyone else that might stumble upon this  blog. I’m sure there are many others out there already doing this, but I just thought I’d provide a little bit of knowledge to those who know my tastes.

Over time, I’m hoping that if you’re not sure where to go for a special date, or just want to try someplace new without disappointment resulting in a ruined mood for the evening, you’ll come by and visit.

Thanks for the little extra motivation from my friend Rachelle’s post to get me started…I didn’t tell anyone either.

Yay! Congrats on your first blog post… A few years ago I never really thought twice about food, but thanks to you I am now able to distinguish between good food and shitty food. Actually, now that i think about it, i’m not sure if that is a good thing… I mean better appreciation for the great food is a good thing no doubt, but suddenly realizing that my Steak dinner at the Keg was disgusting – hey maybe ignorance is bliss. lol

Keep pursuing your goals.

Oh and a little SEO tip for you… to get the blog off the ground you are going to need lots of links back from other blogs to get picked up by Google. Wherever you make comments, link back to your URL here.

You’ve come along way from dry Ichiban on the playground! Great idea, Vic, I can’t wait to follow your advice on future jaunts to the Big City!

This is a great idea Vic! Your taste in food is varied and you enjoy trying new restaurants. From Tsui Hang’s spicy squid on a Saturday night, to a fancier restaurant 😉 this is a great way for people to get some great tips on places to eat! I will have to add this to “my favorites” 🙂

Hi!

Great posts!

Where’s the ending to the Punta Cana “story”? I’m thinking of going there in a couple of weeks so all tips are appreciated.

Keep them coming!

Hey adventurer, send me a quick email (see my About page) if you want some more specific advice on Punta Cana. We mostly stayed in the resort except for one of our dive trips to Catalina Island. Hope you have an awesome vacation!
